Got attacked by jakes all season last year on my 15 acre spot in Pipe Creek. Never could get a mature bird to cross a fence, so I got my nuts kicked in last season. I knew I’d have a couple hours of down time from work this morning, so I dropped my boy off at day care with all my gear on at 7:50 this morning. Saw turkeys everywhere on the way to the spot. Pulled up to the property at 8:05 and opened the truck door. Heard a gobble on the neighbors before I could get around to my shotgun. Ended up being two of them, and I got them semi-fired up and headed my way, coming from my left. Saw a deer spook back down the driveway to my right, and here comes a beaming white head and a strutter. Put on a great show strutting and drumming for about 10 minutes. Never gobbled till he got to about 40 yards. Dead bird by 8:45. 19lbs, 6 3/4” beard(beard rot), 1” and 1 1/8” spurs. I love turkey hunting.
