I saw the Milo Hanson buck mount in person. Regardless of age it’s a hell of a deer!

If only the Rompola Buck was entered, it would have been the world record.

Yes, he ended up being wrong. Two different universities ran extensive studies with resembling results.

The Hanson buck lacks the mass to be much older than 3.5 IMO. Number and length of tines plus main beams got him over the top. He could well be 4.5 though.

Several "tests" have been done using KNOWN AGE bucks to determine how well ageing can be determined from both tooth wear and cemmentum annuli. Neither are 100% reliable, but it looks like cemmentum annuli comes closest to true age. I believe our own el gato has done such a "test". Maybe he will weigh in.

I haven't seen the Rompola video before, only the pic.
                        Thanks for posting that.

Guess that questionable buck came after the video?

Yes, after. He obviously knows his stuff about big deer. But his taxidermist selection has me baffled!!

He doesn't strike me as a guy who would fabricate a hoax. But, there was a lot of weird things about that deer. The look, the scoring, the secrecy, he used to be both a P&Y and B&C scorer, etc.
