I guess it’s a little different for me, but I’m at firefighter and with the schedules we work it’s rare to find one of us that doesn’t have a “side hustle”. No really for the money but because we only work 10 days a month at the fire house which means we have a lot of time of, and most of us are busy bodies. I work part time for another department now, as well as umping high school baseball games on my days off. These are both things i enjoy doing that put extra money in the bank every month so that I can have a new truck and a good deer lease. Well worth it in my opinion.

I have a month off at a time from my main job. If I didn't do something else, I am pretty sure my wife would kill me in my sleep.

I'm fortunate enough to make enough that my wife doesn't have to work and can stay home with the kids while they're young. I also only work 2 of every 3 weeks and get 4 weeks vacation on top of that.
now as for a side hustle, my wife like to paint bird houses and rocks among other crafts that she sell/trades with her friends. I am just a general rural handyman, I'm great with hydraulics, computers/wifi, plumbing/rain catchment, engine repair. but I usually don't take cash as I prefer to trade.

My college roommate does this and really enjoys it. He uses that money as a traveling fund for him and his wife. You’ll be surprised at how much you can make doing this.

I drive Uber 7 days a week and do security on the side. It'll be great when I'm caught up on bills from when the oilfield turned south and a divorce happened to me at the same time lol.

I do like to drive Uber though. It's always a adventure and fun meeting people from all over the place and different backgrounds.

I play Texas Hold 'Em cash games. I will play at least once a week, usually three times. There's a game somewhere near me every night though. It's a fun way to make a few extra hundred after work.

Since becoming a Realtor, I've slacked off on the private investigator work, but still manage to serve subpoenas and other process every month. Not much m.k iney, but keeps my habit of Texas Hold 'Em fed. Like the above, I play but mostly daily tournaments at Winstar. I usually make the final table 3x a week for some cash winnings.

I don't really have a side 'hustle'. I make a good amount with my regular job and work from home when I am not traveling.

I do web startup, SEO, social media, data protection, email and general admin work for a handful of new companies on the side. Once I have them setup I can do everything from my house. I don't take a salary and opt to get a piece of the business for services. It's a gamble, if the company does not grow I am out some time.

My main hustle is also my side hustle. As a realtor, I could come up with enough work to go 24/7 non-stop. Making money out of that work is a different topic

I sell organic seed starts. Germinate the seed in indoor grow house, under grow lights, harden them off and sell to local nursery in Seabrook.

I sell it over the counter at my business and at church plus a few deliveries. Being a small producer Iím required by the state to sell it face to face. I call it TKD Ranch honey.

I had a side welding business for the last 20 years that I worked my main job. It allowed me to be debt free at 40 and retire with a buy out at 50. The welding business became my main job so I could invest my buy out money. It's been great.

My main gig is in oil and gas - it pays enough for me, the wife, and 2 kids to live comfortably. My “side hustle” makes me more money than my main job. I’ve been selling custom diamond jewelry “on the side” for almost 10 years now. Side hustle #2 is a consulting gig, I provide direction for marketing campaigns for a small number of firms. Currently working on figuring out what side hustle #3 is going to be.

I read an interesting comment early in this thread about finding a job that pays enough to where you “don’t need a side hustle”.. I think that’s a rather limited view of why some people may choose to pursue a “side hustle.” As long as I have spare capacity and I am having fun with the work, I am going to do it.

I've always liked dirt bikes (my user name might give this away) & I rebuild old dirt bikes and resell them - only 2 strokes, so far.

Or, if the bike is worth more in parts, part it out. Since most of the higher dollar parts are in the engine, I also buy a lot of engines off eBay, part those out & resell on ebay.

I've always considered it more of a hobby than a side hustle. It sure isn't work, more something I do for amusement and to support my real hobby of going down to Texas and hunting. I usually make $3-4k a year and since my wife gets my work paycheck, this money is just 'mine'.

Plus I guess I just don't feel right, if I'm not working on something out in the garage ever now & then.

I currently work in QA the past two years I have been tasked with updating our companies online presence. So I designed a new website, optimized the content using SEO and have started making marketing videos for youtube and facebook. Come to find out I thoroughly enjoy doing this kind of work, I think its the old "learning something new deal". So I have started offering those services as a side gig until I make that a career, I am also in the process of creating an outdoor brand (not a clothing line). I have a few hat designs and a few shirt designs already drawn up. I have started learning how to vectorize a logo and will probably slide all of this into a "media company" eventually and offer web optimization, website design (for small companies, easier to deal with), logo creation, get my brand out there, and offer screen printing.

I am also in the process of becoming a firefighter again and trying to move to Washington State!

I will be retiring at the end of May 2020. After coaching and teaching for 21 years and then teaching Freshman Biology for another 13 years it will be time for retirement. I have always said that if I was going to retire then get another job, I would just keep doing this job. I will have a decent retirement salary but I wouldn't mind doing a little something just to pay for my hobbies (hunting, golf, fishing, etc..) 1-2 days a week max. I could always substitute at school for my science cohorts or for one of the coaches (PE only) or wouldn't mind officiating football and baseball (football - junior high/middle school/sub varsity games Tuesday and Thursday and baseball just weekday games). Wouldn't mind learning to work on 4 wheelers, either. I am just not going to pursue a real job. It is time to enjoy what life I have left doing the things that I want and love to do.

I don't have one now, but my wife is a nurse practitioner and has a side hustle doing mobile aesthetic and lifestyle nursing stuff. She will come to you for botox, skincare, IV's when you are hung over, etc.

I have been considering starting a concrete, asphalt, and dirtwork takeoff side business.

When were building our plant we wanted a good time lapse video. Biggest issue we had was getting a good vantage point high enough to capture the overall picture.
