I plan on trying out bow hunting this year, mainly a bird hunter until now. Just got a bow from a buddy. I duck hunt this lake since it has good birds and is as convenient as I can get. Do you guys leave stands up there or just use climbing stands? How many cameras do you run out there to get a sense of whats going on?

I am going to sit one afternoon next week with that cool front moving in. Based off of what I have read, it is worth my time to drive up here rather than stopping at tawok.

when I shot one there (few years ago) they had a scale to weigh the deer and some form to fill out and leave when they were not there

Drove down the road close to my stand last Thursday evening. Saw one smaller buck hauling tail across a field across the road from public land.

I've checked my cameras a couple of times and haven't had anything but one hog show up. Very unusual for my spot. I may try and go later this week when it's supposed to get cold. Hopefully it won't be a blank.

First sit of the season at its a balmy 35 when I parked. Of course I was 30 minutes later than I should have been getting in the stand. And made more noise than a bull in a China shop. Oh well. It's on.......

Missed an 8 at 40 yards. Gotta figure out where i can move my stand a little closer to the trail. Clipped a hanging limb I didn't see and arrow went straight down. Saw around 8 bucks and 3 doe. They were moving good this morning with the cold weather. We don't get 35 degrees in the middle of October often.

Sounds like a good morning!

Great thing about public land... no feeder... so your never really late. And noise means nothing as long as it isnít metal or accompanied by a flashlight. Everything in them woods makes noise, only one thing has a light

I'm hunting a natural funnel point for them. I was late getting there but still needed a headlamp and was banging my rapid rails around more than usual since this was the first hunt. I get stealthier after a few trips. Had a doe watching me close to my stand as I was walking in. I got 50 yards from her before she moved off. It was daylight the time I got settled and it wasn't 30 minutes later when the first doe showed up.

I'm planning going at least one day this week(end). Probably Friday since the wind is going to be howling tomorrow and give some of the rain water time to soak up on the road. They ought to be moving good with this weather and the rut starting.

Any hunt is great for kids. Trails are not well maintained and there are not usually very many hunters afield

Just had an 8pt run a doe by me.. I probably should have shot him but I just wasn't sure. I should have a picture of him. He stood in front of my camera.

Now I'm second guessing not shooting him. I think he was over 13, but in the moment......oh well.
