Yeah area 5 there was 3 trucks on the north entrance and 3 on the south entrance but we left around 11 so there might have been more that left earlier.! Surprisingly we only saw the duck hunter and one other hunter .! Walking back to where we parked we saw tons of vultures on a tree in a draw musta been feasting on a guy pile or carcass.!!!!

On a separate note I set in area 1 for the first time this year. I got in about an hour prior to first shooting light and the 25-35 MPH winds needless to say I did not see a thing... Gave me a chance to work on the old brush blind so it's almost ready to go...

Yes, I don't hint Thanksgiving week anymore it's not possible to have a good hunt. Way too many Fudds use it as their only hunt and do stupid stuff out of desperation. Ask me some time about hunting with 6 people in the same little cove in area 4 or the guy shooting at running deer 50 yard shots. Ugh now I'm in a foul mood.

Well not gonna see any deer sitting at home on the couch so may as well.
There's one other group of hunters camping at 277N but I expect the traffic to increase quite a bit this weekend. Last year the Saturday before Thanksgiving I had to quit hunting my normal spots.
Had a buck 50 yards behind me last night thrashing a tree and making all sorts of weird noises, actually smelled him before he started his shennanigans. I didn't have my grunt call in my bag, 1st trip of the year kinda disorganized. I never saw him but I imagine he was roughly 14 points 185 or so score, roughly.

I slept in this morning, apparently "max power save mode" on the phone disables alarms.

When I hear a buck thrashing and making noise, my anticipated score starts at 200. I usually imagine one of those 200 lb Iowa bucks. You need to work on your anticipated antler scoring, otherwise, 10 years from now that bucks only going to grow to 275. Get that number up there so later he grows to be a true monster. And don't quit anticipating his score too early. Lots of anticipated bucks never make it to 300 because we quit anticipating them to soon.

Today is beautiful one of those days you hunt all day and have action all day, but we're in town watching the Cowboys game lol. Our group got one buck down and one we tracked a few hours and gave up.

Very nice meeting you Levi and Chris.

Off and on, one of my normal spots has been dead as a doornail so went to try another spot and there's trail cams in there so went for my 3rd spot but a boat was parked there so we bailed and started hunting back side of 1 by boat, worked pretty well. When we were over there in 4 there really didn't seem to be a lot of boats but I'm feeling evidence of higher activity. One of the nights a boat came across from the bridge/ramp area and picked someone up at dusk so maybe there are people getting dropped off and not leaving boats parked in there.

Man that's a shame that was a big dude, but more motivation for next time.

Wife got a small buck, her first deer with a bow. She stuck a big doe in the shoulder blade a couple years ago and didn't penetrate and she's been chomping at the bit ever since.

Same but looking to be there this weekend. From what I remember it's heavy during Thanksgiving week. Couple years ago that dude who told me they wounded 5 bucks was leaving after Thanksgiving week while I was rolling in.

Went last weekend for a few days, lots of deer but no shots. Wife shot at a monster at 15 yards and he flinched, clean miss. I ran a few deer out walking in that's about it. I have an employment gap Dec 17th through Jan 7th so should be putting in some time down there. Think I might finally explore the idea of putting up a tripod in a couple key areas I like but I don't like the idea of being glued to those areas or having to go back in to get it if I end up wanting to hunt elsewhere. I tend to move around different areas a LOT.

I'm heading out the first weekend in Jan. with my son and a buddy hoping to get into some sheep. Has anyone have updates from area 5? Has anyone seen any of the exotics in other units? And i noticed this year they added axis deer I didn't know there was any out there.

Somebody saw a herd of Axis somewhere but wouldn't bank on that, kinda like the Blackbuck thing. I heard of a really nice mouflon ram hit but not recovered, in 5 of course. I've hunted 4 a few times this year normally I'll see Aoudad out there years past but haven't seen squat this year and seems like the sheep and goats are gone too, wonder if there's a correlation.

Sheep are not in five right now... Not in big numbers any way... They generally come back to the area in early January with very young kids in tow... In the past mid January seems to be a better time for them to be back as pressure has generally died down...

With the government shut down looming those of you with plans to hunt Amistad bear in mind that Amistad is part of NPS and will shut down

Yeah I remember when that happened before. Makes no sense baron public land with no facilities yet suddenly illegal to use it. They closed Padre island too. Yet both places retain park rangers for security to keep you out.

Was planning to hit it hard next two weeks, I'm unemployed til January!

Hitting #2 tonight, looks like shutdown wont be a problem.

Government Shutdown
The park Visitor Centers, Comfort Stations, Fish Cleaning Stations, and Headquarters will be closed during the Government Shutdown. Park boat launches, campgrounds, hunting areas, hiking trails, and vault toilets will remain open.

^^^ Any luck in two?? Did you make it out, I noticed the buzzards circling over two

I went out this morning but the wind was horrendous... It was swirling in every direction. I heard something approach my spot from behind but just as it was getting close the wind changed and off it went... Never saw it...
