Seems OP has not been on a while. Would be great to find supplier and get some pics for setup ideas!

Yea, I’m the guy that learns the hard way. DONT, DONT, DONT mount these things to the roof! It’s costing me over $20k for all the roof damage that we have, because of the mounts in the roof.

        When installing

What happen? Did the roof leak after they were installed?

Yes, from the lag bolts holding down the racks. The middle section looks like it’s been leaking for years…had no idea. It looks like they did the job right, but water just eventually found a way in. It usually does….I’ll get more pics when we tear apart the porch.

More pics from more roof damage

Unless you plan on removing all panels and brackets, inspecting, then reinstall them every few years……the roof is not where you want them!

This is what happens when installers don’t install roof penetrations properly. Proper install techniques would have avoided this, but too many installers just lag bolt them through the shingle and dab a little silicone.

If going with roof mounted panels, I would be VERY picky about my installer, and would be watching them like a hawk during install to make sure they are installing properly.

I have seen some that get the roof put on at the same time. Your racking mounts are installed by the roofer. That way they are like any other vent in your roof and installed properly. Agree some installer are like the satellie installer guys that ruin a ****e ton of roof
