    Stephen King

I got into a conversation, with a friend of mines son, about
science fiction/ horror writers. etc. etc.
He's about 25, I think.. He seems to think, King is the greatest
writer of all time. I told him,
the only thing King ever wrote worth a darn was "The Green Mile".
I also told him, King wouldn't make a pimple on Edgar Rice Burrough's
azz.. or Rod Serling. or Edgar Allen Poe for that matter.
He said, he'd never heard of Burrough.. I didn't know what to say, after
    that.. What say you ??

You must have forgotten a few. “Misery”. “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”. “The Shining”. “Salem’s Lot”. “It”. C’mon man.

I’ve read LOTS of books but never anything by Burrough, although I know his works. Sometimes the really old stuff doesn’t work well for modern readers.

With that said, books are like movies - everyone has a different preference. King has some great works beyond Green Mile, but he’s not my favorite writer. Too wordy.

If someone said my favorite writer was the pimple on someone’s ***, I would just assume a lot of other stuff about the individual.

King has his place and entertainment value.
                      The GOAT he is not.
Tell the kid to read Tolkien.

The Dark Tower series is very good reading. The Stand is also a great book.

The Stand and the gunslinger series are my favorites. King may not be the goat, but he’s written a lot of good stuff.

King is a brilliant writer if you have thing with death...most of his writing revolves around it entirely.

Pet Cemetery made me laugh & also gave me nightmares...if you like the movie Stand by Me, it was based off his work The Body.

Books / reading is in the eye of the beholder...I'm a huge fan of Brad Thor's work.

Sailor, with all due respect, King is probably the greatest writer of my generation. Many colleges now days have whole classes dedicated to his work. While I hate his political views his books are very impressive.
