    St. Augustine grass help!!

So the wife is an Aggie, believes and dies with TexAgs, nothing wrong with Aggies, only saying that cause I’m married to one. [emoji51] she says it’s all fungus and take all root rot. Nitrogen, phosphorus and iron won’t help, it will make it worse.

We both agree that it has fungus, I’ve been treating that. Nothing has changed, need the green screen to help out.

Yes, it’s a drought year, yes, we have an irrigation system, dogs and kids run all over it. But we have done compost, aerate the yard, sprayed for cinch bugs, etc.

Thinking of just spending the money to get rid of it, zero scape a lot and putting down a type of Bermuda in certain areas.

So what’s wrong with it? Looks great compared to mine as well as most around here.

Here in the DFW area, Neil Sperry is a horticultural specialist, that has been on local radio for 40 years. He knows his stuff.

He get lots of questions on his radio show, regarding SA problems. He has stated many times that if he cannot see the yard with the problem, he cannot diagnose the problem, just talking to the listener. The problem is that many symptoms of SA problems can stem from multiple underlying problems. IE, he cannot rule out the potential problems, via a phone call.

To address this, he put together an in-depth web page for diagnosing SA problems, for his listeners to use to diagnose their problem.

                    Here is the link: https://neilsperry.com/2022/06/st-au...lem-solving-2/

this. have you consider that it might just be how hard the heat is on it? I have st augustine and water mine a full hour everyday and it looks like absolute crap - its never been this bad and the only thing i can figure out is that its the heat just beating down on it all day everyday.

I had take all root rot last year following the big freeze event.

Treated with fungicide to help knock it down. Never really did help though, just kept spreading.

Ended up spreading couple yards of peet moss to top dress (don’t remember where I read to do this). Supposed to do it in spring before green up. I did in June/July. I was really frustrated going into last winter.

This year, it looks awesome. Thicker than all get out. I haven’t even needed to fertilized this year.

No, it’s been a constant problem for the past 5-7 years, moved into the house in 2007, great grass for a while. Been fighting this problem, drought or no drought. This year has been the worse.

Time to give up and zero scape I guess.

To me it looks like it needs fertilizer, lots of water and plenty of sunshine.
