    Trailer floor

I need to replace the trailer floor on my 18' utility trailer. With the cost of lumber these days I'm wondering if it would be worth putting a metal floor in instead. What types of metal should I price for this?

    I would need 11 pieces of 2x8x18.

I’d price your lumber for the wooden floor then compare the cost for steel and welding. Steel has gone up, but maybe you can score some old pipe and then use expanded metal on top

Option: Some saw mills are cutting old utility poles for trailer beds.

One thing to consider, wood bed trailers are designed to flex as you likely notice loading and unloading driving etc. If you replace with metal, additional bracing is needed for the metal floor. The C-Purlin idea is interesting. I wonder if you could lay it down like a traditional floating wood floor?

Yes they do, I did it here. They make them in 1.5" thickness that perfectly matches 2X wood.

C purlin will be slick as greased Owl poop. When wet. Couple of options
                      1. Paint it with a grit in it.
                      2. Use metal walk planks/ boards shaped like C Purlin

If going to a steel floor you will need to have crossmembers on 12" centers and same for Rumber if you go that route
