Started my son w/ a .243. He just turned 30 and still uses the same rifle.

If you have the AR already, look at a new upper in Grendel or 7.62x39. I prefer the 7.62, Tula makes a 154 grain soft point that is an absolute hammer on deer and pigs. Use a 10 round mag, and go. The bigger mags are problematic at times.
