    Hill country treestand.

Has anyone tried this? Was thinking setting these longer poles in oak motts just inside the edge of the canopy along trials and hang lockon stands to them. Just figured someone here has done it and might chime in. Thanks Mike

It would work. Just get a telephone pole. I like the way you think. I would just try to make sure we're your deer are traveling

I’ve thought about this, do it and post the process for us.

Sounds like a great idea till you try to dig the hole

I'd think digging the hole may be your main problem

You spelled "Hillbilly" wrong in the title.

That's an awesome idea! I hunt in DeWitt county.... Plenty of tall oaks but hard to find a straight enough tree for a 15' ladder stand especially the places I want them. Can't tell you the hours I've spent trying to making ladder stands work where I could. I think I'll definitely give this a whirl during the Christmas break. I'll post a pic if I get it work out as well.

Your "hill country" is a little bit different than mine.

I'm thinking keeping it outside the trunk of a tree to avoid major roots the best I can but hidden well up in the canopy. Tractor with a post hole digger and some Quickcrete. Tractor or a buddy to help get it into the hold and leveled. Place the pole maybe along side a major limb so you can secure it to it as well maybe with some tie down straps 6-8' or so off the ground. Loving this idea!

This is how I hunt with tripods with great success. I could have a dozen spots setup for different winds easier than dragging around tripods. And yes I'm the biggest hillbilly of all!

If you can pop holes with a skid-steer you’re on to something. Cheap way to cover some serious ground

I think you'd have to lash 2 or 3 of them together to be strong enough to support you. Even them you might want to do like Acmanwarwas111 mentioned above and strap the posts to a limb.
