How do they test if they don’t take the brain ?

Maybe it’s to keep people from tagging them?

          Or, it’s gangs tagging them...

The guys at the check station in Hondo told me they check all the road kills for CWD if possible. They paint them after sampling. They test a small gland that is at the base of the skull.

See what you do is go out about 3AM and paint everything that you see on the road. Then you go back out about 7 AM and everything that is not painted is fresh. Pick it up and you got tenderized meat.

I actually think it is LE marking it so when people call in about a dead animal, the dispatcher will ask "was there a orange X on it?" if yes then they will say they have been notified of it and TXDot will be picking it up shortly. Or it could be CWD.

The orange paint was actually applied prior to them being hit. It was started by PETA, they believed if hunters wearing orange was enough to keep them from getting shot it might work for the deer also. It doesn't appear to be successful for slowing down road kill thus far.

need to paint those yellow crime scene lines around the dead deer.

Talk to Warden Whitt in Mills Co. Orange X's mean the deer has had lymph nods removed for CWD testing.
