    Raisning Our First Meat Pig

With everything thats going on in the world my wife and I decided to get pig to raise and butcher. We got the pig from a friend who raises show pigs, it was a cull, he only charged us $25. We live on 1 acre outside the city limits and built a roughly 8x15 pen for it.
We have a kill date scheduled in September.
We are new to pigs and would welcome any positive advice!
The kids have been warned not to get attached.
Here's a YouTube video of us getting it.

Get them a bowling ball or something heavy to push around. They get bored and will root the while place up.

Put some hog rings in their nose and you won’t have to worry about them rooting.

After the kids name it and the wife spends some time around it, it will be around for years.

I'm not sure how big it will get by September, but larger pigs will eat chickens. One way to keep the kids from getting attached, is make them do the labor involved in raising it. By September, they'll likely be glad for it to be gone. Good luck.
