    Our special place (pixel intensive)

In a recent thread I posted a picture that got a lot of attention. I thought I might share some others. This is a 1/4 section (160 acres) of land that was acquired by my family during the Homestead Act of 1862. It is in the foothills just east of San Jose, CA. There has never been electricity or running water on the place.

This is the original building erected to satisfy the requirement of living on the property to gain possession.

The front part of this structure was the Post Office in Niles,Ca. Some of my fathers deer hunting buddies disassembled it and moved it here for a new cooking cabin. The structure in the rear was an old barn that was turned into sleeping quarters. My brother and sisters currently have everything stripped out and are refurbishing both buildings.

And here I am trying to pass along the passion. Step 1, a lesson in gun safety.
