    Where are the doves?

Drove from Houston to Carrizo Springs and back this weekend and saw very few doves anywhere. The most I saw was just west of Houston in a goatweed field by a construction zone. We had a good weekend catching up with friends but it was the slowest dove opener I can remember. Even the milo fields outside of Dilley were empty. I wonder if the lack of doves is due to the dry summer, or possibly they got pushed out somewhere else. Anybody seeing birds in decent numbers?

I see them in droves on every road I travel, which is a pretty wide swath!

But nothing when we're in the field with shotguns.

Same between Poteet and Pleasanton. 3 hunts this weekend and only 7 to show for it. Very few birds in the air. But, across the county road I heard at least 600 shots Friday and Saturday. I couldnt figure out what they were shooting at.

They're hiding out with all the ducks that never show up anymore.

They all go to the city on the 1st. 3 sits this weekend and saw 8 birds. None within range except the one that was, I hit and it flew about 30 feet the other side of a high fence that borders our lease property.

Seems like for the first time ever they are flying in huge groups through San Saba. Seeing 20-30+ at a time.

I think the big freeze hurt them more than we realized.
