I would bet that back wall faces northwest to keep the cold air out and the opening faces southeast to let the predominant breeze in during the summer.
Our springs and summer down hear are brutal. Feels like a blow dryer out of the southeast. We are basically facing North, dead of winter after a norther it wont be usable, but spring and summer and early fall great spot. The back walls faces due south and allows for some cross breeze with the windows, and mosquitos, well if they are alive they’ll get us anywhere. With the cross breeze this evening they weren’t bad, but cutter or off is always a necessity.
