Best TV Westerns of all time

In your opinion what was the best western tv series, or mini series?

For me, mini series is Lonesome Dove.

    Series, maybe Gunsmoke.

There’s so many of them. What are your favorites?

    Here’s a few, I’m sure there’s many more.

    Gunsmoke
    Bonanza
    The Rifleman
    Rawhide
    Big Valley
    Lone Ranger
    Longmire
    Maverick

Agree with Lonesome Dove for the mini-series. Amazing.

    As for tv series…..

I loved the Lone Ranger and Rifleman as a kid.

Not really a western, but I loved the series Daniel Boone with Fess Parker as well.

            Lonesome dove for sure.

            Anything with John Wayne.
            -True grit
            -El Dorado
            -Red River
            -Big Jake
            -Sons of Katie Elder
            -McClintock
            And of course, The Searchers

            Tombstone

            Unforgiven

If any of these are on tv, it’s an instant watch or record if I’m too busy. My grandfather had almost every John Wayne on VHS and we wore those things out over the years when the weather was too bad to build fence or work around the farm.

Funny to see this thread bc I saw another one that was titled movies that choke you up. Wouldn’t say that The Shootist chokes me up, however, I will say that it’s by far my least favorite John Wayne movie. No one wants to see the hero die, and sadly, cancer took its toll on him in real life.

Ok then, if we're naming Movies, I'm back in .

              Good, Bad, Ugly is NO.1.
              Nothing close imo.
              LD NO.2
Tombstone, Unforgiven, A few dollars more and few others drag up at 3rd in no particular order.

Hard for me to pick a number one. I enjoy each movie for certain reasons. And that’s what’s awesome about them. Each movie is different with great story plots. But actor, John Wayne for sure. He was iconic and one of a kind.

Gunsmoke was TV's longest running western and Bonanza was NBC's longest running western series. I enjoyed Bonanza. However, number 2 most watched was The Virginian.
