My wife and I go to Mexico 3 times a year, 2 times to Cancun and 1 to cabo. We go to an adult only all inclusive, LeBlanc. They keep the beaches clean, the food is outstanding and the drinks are top shelf. The service is unbelievable. I can leave my house and be on the beach drinking a Margarita in a few hours. I am always running and gunning, this is just an awesome way to relax for a week.
PS: The scenery is outstanding!!!

Playa Del Carmen & Cozumel are awesome places to go. Parasail, fish, Mayan ruins, swim with the sea turtles and much more.

When people talk about resorts in Mexico, they usually say some version of, "it's very safe as long as you stay on the resort." We have friends that go multiple times every year. They love it. Just not for me.

Same for a cruise. I like to get away from people when I'm on vacation. Being on a ship with hundreds of other people would feel like hell on earth (or hell on water) for me. I know you can get off the ship for a few hours during the day, but having to stick to somebody else's schedule would suck too. But millions of people enjoy cruises, so that's cool for them. I can't imagine that I'll ever join them though.

I’ve been 4 times. Never once felt uncomfortable. Even ate at some local dives; shopped local etc.. Tulum was my favorite. Always met more than respectable folks

At this point I’m kinda done with it, but we used to go every year and it was a ton of fun. I’d still rather go to Mexico than Florida…

Like with anything you still get what you pay for in relation to the goods. Even though Mexico is typically a better “value” than US places. If you go down there on a $250 a night all inclusive…. It won’t be the same food and drink as a $600 a night place. But whatever the budget is it will still usually beat out most US tourists attractions.

Good lookin women, food, drinks and fishing. I gained ten pounds in 5 days in Mexico. It's awesome.

An all inclusive resort is anyways. I didn't have to leave. Just ate every time my stomach quit feeling full whether I was hungry or not.

I did the resort thing a bunch back in the day and really enjoyed them but since I discovered SCUBA and Cozumel I enjoy spending my afternoon and evenings in town. The food is great and VRBO’s are cheap if you get a little off the tourist areas.

I would rather work than sit on a beach and stare at the water. But fishing, diving etc, yeah, that would be fun. I gotta do something. Honestly care very little about fine dining and fancy hotels. Im probably just a little too trashy to enjoy fancy stuff.

A cruise would be hell on earth.

Plenty of places I would like to see and fish/hunt though

You have to leave the resort, but I’ve enjoyed amazing surfing, SCUBA diving, spear fishing fly fishing, deep sea fishing, exploring cenotes, and zip lining while in Mexico. It is an awesome country, but I hope they figure out that the whole narco-state thing is no bueno for tourism and its people.

You stay at the wrong places. Each time I leave Mexico I feel like a pickled egg from the drinks and have to eat sammiches from overdosing on shrimp cocktail.

You remember the Ryan Steakhouse incident story?
That was me in Mexico. Three days of buffets and zero #2's. Then it hit me like the guy in the story while I was pool side. Someone walked in the small pool house bathroom and ran right back out! By 100x the worst explosion I've ever had

Default What's the allure in going to a resort in Mexico?

I don’t get it either. Went to Playa del Carmen and stayed at a 4-5 star resort.

Meh at best. No desire to go back.

Probably doesn’t help that I dislike the beach.

Oh yeah, that's never a good thing. Luckily I didn't have the no #2's problem. I think it was our third night there and we went to a Brazilian steakhouse. My brother and I both stopped on the 9th time the waiters came around to slice off a piece of meat onto our plates. I can't ever remember feeling that miserably full before or since. Some of our family was going out to the bar and he asked if I was going. I said "No I can't I'm feeling sick." He was too so we both decided to go back to our rooms and digest the food we had consumed and we'd meet up at the bar in two hours. I laid down for two hours and I felt not so great still but I had to meet my brother at the bar.

It was a good 400 or 450 yards to the bar from my room so I began the long walk. It was dark as could be outside and I made it half way and I got to sweating somethin fierce. I had to blow mud like you can't believe. I stopped and I had one of two choices to make. Go back to my room and take care of it or press forward and go to one of two bathrooms over at the resort. I pressed on. About three quarters of the way there I realized how terrible that choice was. I couldn't go any further. I hopped in some bushes and squatted down and all the sudden I hear two girls laughing and talking and they were walking up the sidewalk towards me. I couldn't see them and they couldn't see me. I thought "Just stay squatted down, they won't see you." but then my voice of reason chimes in, "what if they do?" I hop up and jump out of the bushes and started walking very fast past them. Once I was past I took off at a full sprint. Got to the bathroom and bust in like I was the police. Slammed open the first stall door I see and there was a guy sitting on the toilet in there. He hadn't locked the door. I hit him in the leg with the door and immediately turn around. I don't think I even shut the stall door back. I get to the other bathroom and luckily nobody was occupying the stalls. You talk about relief. I felt like a whole new person.

My brother was sick from all that food. He never showed up to the bar. I almost took a doody in the bushes on a very nice resort for no reason. When you gotta go boom boom that bad your brain goes into full panic mode. Had those girls not been drunk and a lot more quiet they would have walked by and heard something in those bushes. And it wouldn't have been no critter growlin.

One of my favorite stories of all time happened in Mexico. When my brother was about 13 he got hit in the mouth and busted one of his front teeth loose. It turned grey because the root was dead. So the dentist shaved that tooth down into a point and cemented a fake one on in its place. On our 4th day there my mom, brother, sister and my brothers ex-wife went to breakfast. I decided to sleep in unfortunately. While he was eating breakfast he started chewing up some food and he tells my mom "Man, this bacon is F'n crunchy." He spit it out into a napkin and my mom said he looked and his fake tooth had fallen out and he chewed it up. I woke up and I could hear the account of what had happened between my mom and other family members. My grandma said "Oh no, we're taking family pictures today. Poor guy." I sat up in bed and I was laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face.

Later that day we took family pictures on the beach. My brother and his family grouped up to get their picture taken and I said "Smile guys, look happy!", he smiled real big. He'd forgotten he was missing a tooth. I was on my hands and knees in the sand laughing hysterically. I'll never forget that look on his face. Oh my gosh. I'm still laughing about that.

I've done the all-inclusives, and they are a lot of fun with a group of friends. But these days, I prefer to rent a VRBO and a vehicle. I enjoy buying groceries and doing some cooking, usually eating dinner locally, and avoiding the crowds. I don't drink enough to really miss the all-you-can-drink aspect of it, although it is nice to occasionally spend the afternoon at a pool bar and tie one on.

We are headed to secrets Maroma in the AM, we usually do an all inclusive every year and I always enjoy myself. It’s nice just to hang out and not worry about anything. This place looks nicer than where we have been in the past so I am looking forward to it!

We've stayed at some REALLY nice resorts, but we never just hang out in them. We walk past people sitting by the pool reading on our way out the door every day. They seem to be enjoying themselves, so it's cool. Just not for us.

Wife and I feel the same as you. We do stuff wherever we are and often it’s in coastal places. Laying around at an all inclusive is not our deal. Chasing bonefish/permit/tarpon in the Bahamas or CR, yep. I don’t like Mexico based on my own personal experiences but I’m great with others liking it.

We went there a few years back. Very nice and had a great time.

No desire to go to places like that. To me just a waste of time and money. That's what makes it great though, we can all go where we enjoy ourselves!

Didn't do a resort but we rented an amazing house in Isla Mujere's Mexico. We swam with whales, did some scuba diving, a small trail hike on the rocks and beach, ate at some amazing restaurants, did some shopping with the wife, and some deep sea fishing. Yeah, that's the allure for me. I don't care about a resort and a swimming pool.

I have friends that go to other countries and never leave the resort. That's their thing but I can hang out at a pool and get as drunk as I want here. No reason to travel for that.

You’d be down there in a heart beat if they had a duck blind and spread already waiting on ya. 🤣🤣
