    Sight In Question

Let me start off by saying that I have probably sighted in excess of 100 rifles in my lifetime and am very comfortable getting them to zero at 100 yards.

I always "get close" at 25 yards then move to 100 and dial it in. All of my scopes have adjustable turrets so I zero at 100 and dial for different distances with dope.

Last few times I have sighted in I have been trying to establish 100 zero at 25 but haven't been successful.

For example I sighted in a 30-06 this weekend that the dope chart called for zero at 100 and -0.68 at 25. So I sighted +/- -0.75 low at 25 then moved to 100. I was 4.5 inches high at 100. I dialed 4.5 inches down and hit bull.

    What am I missing?

It could be the height of the scope off the barrel?

Sight height is what I suspect. Experienced on a thermal that was 3 inches above center of bore. Confused me for a while.

Isnt it 25 meters = dead on at 200 meters, and 36 meters = dead on at 300 meters? Its a military sighting method

I am using an App on my phone and I set the scope height.

I know lots of things go into play like pressure, velocity, barrel length, etc... but didn't think it would have been off 4 inches.

So when you say you sighted .75 low at 25, how did you do this?
Your POI was on your crosshairs at 25yds?

I am aimed at bull and POI was .75 low.

                Ok, that's correct.
Only other thing you need to factor in to that equation is adding your scope height.
This can vary from 2" to 3" depending on your rings.
Let's say your rings put you at 2.5" over bore.
For a 25yd shot that MUST be factored in so that would put you at 3.25" low at 25yds which puts you a lot closer to that 4" high at 100.

50/200 is what i typically use for quick sight in and it's proven pretty spot on and generally is 1" high at 100 yards (dead on at 50 yards generally on at 200 yards).

Were you .75” low at 25 or .75 MOA?
