Below ground level pit

Has anyone built a fire pit slab and had the fire pit in a hole (1 foot) and a short wall around it.

I really don’t want the normal “wishing well” type pit where in the fire is behind a taller wall from me.

Hey bud. I did one that was both. Ours at the old house was 1’ below level ground, and about 1-1/2’ above. It worked great. PM or text me and I will send you some pics and more info.

How do u get the water out of it? Does it just soak into the ground?

May Dad built one into a concrete patio he poured many moons ago. Lines the walls with fire brick the bottom was sand. Probably about 2 feet deep.
