Myself and two buddies also drew 1/6-1/10. We'll be first timers so following along this thread heavily trying to extract as much info as possible. I've been applying for 5 years but just started tacking them on year before last.

I have a group of 4 that wonít be going. Three of us drew chaparral and the other drew matador so we are going to let this one go. I imagine youíll have a decent shot at second draw.

Both fun places to hunt but have to hunt them different ways. Seems the animals at Laguna are smarter and harder to kill! All of teniente is thick as helll and Laguna has plenty open areas. I like Laguna more but wouldnít pass up a chance to hunt teniente again

Let talk about what arrow weight and specs are best for those hunting Laguna, especially thinking about Nilgai.

What grains and what broadheadgood luck to those selected

Dangit, I just retuned my bow for my deer arrows. I assume generally speakin an arrow built for Elk would be the ticket?

Iíve had 2 pass throughs (tight on the shoulder placement) on Nilgai using Beeman 340 carbon arrows with a 125 grain Solid broadhead, however Iíve since lost faith in Solid.

Last year I used a 340 spine FMJ with a 125 grain slick trick 1Ē diameter and had excellent penetration for a shot dead in the shoulder. I pulled the arrow through the opposing side of the bull once I removed the hide in the breakdown process.

Both of these were 70 lb set ups.

This year I beefed it up to 300 spine fmjís and an 80 lb rig simply because I can donít worry about my shoulders lol. Shot placement is key of course at the end of the day.

Iíll follow with some shot placement photos and broadhead failure.

The green screen users on here scoff at slick tricks for some reason, something about a terrible blood trail, blah, blah. I use slick tricks and have had lots of success.

I currently use 125GR slick trick magnum ,300 Easton Axis 4mm, about 495 grains, 287 FPS and 70 pound draw.

Thank you. One from LANWR the other just north of Raymondville.

Not sure why on the Slick trick hate but to each their own Iíve had many many kills with them and old ferrules that are seemingly indestructible and hard to retire. The blade locking system is genius and they are affordable to shoot with replacement blades. Aside from not being cut on contact for lighter poundage shooters they check all the boxes for me.

My typical set up is 500 grains (GT Hunter XT 340) with some type of mechanical (probably Grim Reapers this year, Rage in the past). I have a short draw and shoot those about 250 FPS, so I'm looking to maximize penetration all the time.

Hoping 2nd draw brings us some luck. Been quite a few years since I didn’t draw Laguna.

I took a cow last year and was ready to go back and find the bull that has my arrow in his shoulder for round 2

We got drawn for teniente 11/17-11/20. I was planning going to a magnus black hornet ser razor. But hadn’t thought about slick trick honestly. Not sure which is better but I definitely wanna go to a 125g fixed.

200 permits per hunt I believe. Numbers drop as the hunt progresses weather dependent as well.

Think 200 permits per hunt. Iíve never bow hunted there but from what I hear about 20% or more are no shows and half of those that are leave by the second evening. At least it seems that way following along here

Adolph thomae Jr park is where you can camp there. On the north side of unit 3. Not supposed to enter the refuge that way but plenty guys do every year.
