This link is pretty good when it comes to twisting turrets and quantifiable data. Most brands, to include NF ATACR are not immune from imperfect tracking but some have a greater size variance or greater recurrence of issues. That link goes to show exactly why anecdotal evidence like you suggested doesn't hold water-- the Vortex Razor Gen2 and AMG both tracked as well or better than the ATACRs. But- the sample size isn't large or perfect.

In my experience having owned and shot behind a majority of those brands there are certainly pros and cons and tracking perfection is a variable to consider. I've probably owned a dozen VX5HD, VX6HDs and so far so good. I did have issues with zeiss v4s but also with a swaro Z5 and there were other things I didn't like on those scopes.

For the OPs budget, outside of a VX5HD there isn't much comparable. The Burris XTRIIs don't touch the quality of the Vx5HD but I've see the new XTRIII for less than $1k new but haven't been behind one. I think some of the older Bushnell models (DMR, LRHS) would be worth a look but theyre mainly MIL versions.
I'm not here to argue, but there are legit tests on Rokslide. They are well documented and unbiased. The anecdotes are a totally separate deal, and I agree they can be biased or create dogpiling. Carry on.

Ended up ordering a Meopta (maker of the Conquest) Optika6 3-18x50 SFP. If it doesn't my expectations, it will go on down the line (and/or go on a beater rifle).

      Thanks all.

        Yeah I didn't like my NX8 either.

I have one on a backup backup backup backup rifle

Aside from the weight it’s a nice scope. Turrets are not too good but if you’re just pointing and shooting it’s plenty good.

I do not think you'll be disappointed with the Meopta Optika6 that you chose. You can use the Strelok Pro app to dial in your reticle to your ballistic data for bullet drops. If you chose a Z-Plus reticle you can dial in point blank for your specific round, also very handy when you own a rangefinder. Looking forward to your range report, Mitch.

              Guys,
Got the scope and am sending it back. While the glass looks quite good...it's so heavy. So, going to pick up another VX 5HD.

I really like my SWFA 10x and have a 3-9 on backorder.

Is SWFA still even in business? I heard they closed the Midlothian store.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"! I would stay with Leupold.

I've shot through a VX 5HD, and the higher end magnification optics pale in comparison to a Nightforce SHV. It breaks the $1k limit, but only by a bit.

Nightforce glass imo has mediocre glass at best until you get to the ATACR line.

Agreed. Way better glass out there than the SHV and NX8 lines.

Yep. I’ve owned em all and all I still own is an atacr. Nightforce claim to gain is their reliability. You’d be hard pressed to find a tougher scope
