My latest project - Torges Tree Seat

This idea has been around a while. Dean Torges started it from what I understand, hence it carries his name. His original version is a bit different. I incorporated some changes that I saw on Tradgang (knot system, hinges).

I just used items I had laying around, except the hinges. They were $2/piece at Lowes. The board is from an old desk drawer. The rope is 3/8" poly. The rubber gasket (a leftover from work) is Gorilla glued and screwed to the back with 1 1/4" drywall screws.

The idea is to use this on public land where you can't leave a stand. You walk, you find a spot, you attach to the tree in about 20 seconds, and you're ready to hunt.

It folds up small enough to fit in a back pack and it's lighter than a chair.

If you get bored, you can still hunt your way to another area and find a tree to sit against. A lot of guys also use them for running and gunning (bow) for turkeys.

Anyway, my prototype is ugly, but I think it'll work just fine. I plan on using it with my ghillie suit.

Love it. Better to make your own than buy something any day of the week!

Nice work Jeff .....been looking at those same threads this week in prep to build one of these for my own situation. Gonna have to add a pad to the mix though.

Good idea, i just wouldn't want to get anything caught in the seam.

What did you use for the piece against the tree?? ( the V area ) I might have to build one for myself.

I had an old rubber gasket laying around (from work). I used gorilla glue and screws to hold it in places. The screw heads also provide for some added traction.

Some guys use old garden hose, steam hose, etc.

I thought about that. Lots of guys do, haha

It wasn't a problem with the thin athletic shorts I was wearing. Wearing hunting clothes (thicker) it would never be an issue.

There's no real need to cut it in half, though...I just did it so it fits in my back pack better.
