I like some of his work, but some of it is a bit tedious. That said, Academy Awards used to sorta mean something, but in the last twenty or so years, not so much.

RIP to one of my favorite authors. I reread four of his books when we were without power for 52+ hours

Lonesome Dove will always be my favorite. Not many movies/tv shows are close to the book but he did a great job of keeping them on track. I really enjoyed The Last Picture Show and it's associated books- kept me laughing through the whole series. His talent won't soon be surpassed (barring BBM).

Roughly = grapes mature in the presence of other grapes?

RIP Larry McMurtry. Thanks for writing about Texas and Texans. Also, thanks for your other writing too, but mostly thanks for giving us Gus and Woodrow.

I seem to remember something like that. Sort of the synonym to “water seeks its own level,” I guess.

But considering “my main skills are talkin’, makin’ biscuits, and gettin’ drunk on the porch,” I wouldn’t put too much stock into anything I say.

Translation I got was " from these small grapes will grow a mighty vine" seamed to fit.

He was a professor at Rice when I attended, but I didn't take his class. By that time, he had written, "Horseman Pass By", which was made into the film, Hud.
