Interesting little 'fingers' on the leading edge of the wings.
I guess they use those to dig.
I'm in Williamson, but the rocky part; I guess they need softer dirt.

Very nice, Bill. What do the burrows look like? Or do they use other animal's burrows?

Those are some nice pictures, really like them. I get usually one or two pictures of burrowing owls on my game cameras each year. I think I have only gotten pictures of them in the winter. I did not know we had them in Guadalupe County.

These are near Granger Lake.

Thanks! They don't need a lot for a burrow. They are pretty small critters. I think these stay among rocks at a culvert under the roadway. Up near Lubbock, they use prairie dog burrows.

Thanks for looking and commenting everyone.

They don't actually "burrow" to my knowledge, they kick prairie dogs, gophers etc. out of their holes and use those. At least the ones out here in West Texas that is what they do. If you have prairie dogs you have burrowing owls as well for sure. Very cool little birds. Have seen them down in the Odessa area and all up and down the panhandle.
