Well, it's an honor to start this seasons OLWAHFT! First, I hope this year will result in a safe and productive outdoor season for all. I've enjoyed the past year's comments. Particularly how everyone has conducted themselves. You are to be commended. It's time now to get your permits and, if you haven't already, start your scouting! It's my prayer that we are all granted the health and time to enjoy what we have and to appreciate the little things. Look out for one another online as well as on site. There's deers in them there woods.
Now, it's my understanding that along with the honor of starting this year's thread, everyone is supposed to pm me one of their best hunting or fishing spots. Duck and striper are top of my list! I'll be waiting... God speed to all. J |

Oh me first!
Favorite hunting spot, but it's best when everyone is sleeping. 31.9243690, -97.3634748 I hope to get out there quite a bit. Currently live in Austin but willing to drive if we don't get drawn on any public lands. |

Nice start JND, but if I were to PM my spots- you would have to rely on the grocery store for meat, unless you are willing to dump 50 lbs of corn on a spot every other day. Hand corn, doesn't mean a full bag.
Good luck to all! I may be down at the W pending draws. |

Ah, the heck with it. I'll just go ahead and share with everbody.
The places in dark blue on both maps are good spots for fishing. The lighter blue places on the first map are sometimes good too. On the first map, the places in yeller on land are good. And on the second map, places in light blue/gray are good on land. Last edited by Texas Grown; 08-23-2020 at 03:00 PM. |

TG, I just deduced that you are full of something. Everyone knows that neither for those are good for anything. Folks, don't go by his maps, it's BS. I'll post some in a few years!
Again JND, nice start. |

Great intro! I hope to put a big one down this year. I’ve got me a water sled this year so I am fully mobile. Some big deer are out there to be had but is not an easy hunt. Good luck to everyone!

This will prolly be the last time I offer this incredible deal....
My step-brother-in-law, whose name is vladimeer, hacked into a prominent members ‘puter, and retrieved 27 years of coordinates , with details like weather, times, etc. I am offering these files to the highest bidder. Reserve starts at $2,694... Only acause I will have to share some with the hackee. These are Primo locations, some only accessible by boat or trespass. If’n you want pictures of the awesome trophy’s he has collected, add an additional $500. Let the bidding begin. Hi Mike..... love ya like a brother. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Grateful to be a part of this thread and for the opportunity to hunt Whitney and Aquilla this year. I hunted TPWD public land for the last two seasons and was unsuccessful. This property is one hour closer than any of the TPWD land and my current work situation allows me more time. I pray that everyone here has a great season and I look forward to contributing to this thread.
I would be interested to hear how y'all get your kill back to your truck. I guess I plan to pack it out in a pack I use for elk hunting. Any other ideas? |

I use a game cart that stays in the truck until I get one on the ground. It's a pain to walk in twice, but a lot better than solo dragging a deer out.

How about a GTG in the open, Kimball, Steel Creek, Nolan/Lakeside ramp?
Texas Grown's posts need double salt, BS-73- so much salt you can't stand it. Some of us also boat in, closer than dragging to truck. |

Question..
Is it legal to quarter and pack out your kill in the field and leave carcass on Corp land? I read through the rules and didn’t see this in there. |

On a side note for everyone: Just please don't leave any disposed of critter parts at a gate or parking area. It's unsightly for non hunters. And down right stinks. Same for using bathroom in the parking areas. Nothing worse than opening your door to get out and a big old pile someone left there with no paper. And yes there are people who do that. The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go! |

W lake is sitting at 3.54 feet below normal at the present. That's pretty good for this time of year compared to years past.

Yesterday I went outside to do a little yardwork. I lasted about 20 minutes. I've been driving with no ac for the last month and had gotten used to the heat. Not yesterday!
Dove season is upon us although I fear our season will be a repeat of prior years. |

It's funny, the most dove I've seen was at the sporting clays course. We had to be careful not to accidentally shoot the real thing. It's a little hard when insinct takes over. Friday we almost had a bird fly into a clay pattern. Almost a two fer.

My Bro in Law is near lake front in a no hunting subdivision and the map shows hunting all around him. He and my Sister in Law are superb expert fisher folks. But they are not in to hunting. I get pics from them of some unreal bucks and lots of turkeys. Might need to be doing some persuasions and crafty manipulations. My secret spots are cheap. As I aint got any.

Yep! Them deer try to swim the river, and plunk, under they go! They are some mean aggressive fish. I've never heard of anybody being eaten by one. Course I imagine no one has survived to tell that they had been eaten or attacked. |
