32 Smith and Wesson surface rust problems

I came across this revolver this morning in some crates I was going thru. As you can tell, one side has some rust on it that I want to remove. Without shooting it, it seems to work just fine. Any ideas or advice y'all can give me?

Put some oil on it. Get a pre 1982 all copper penny and rub the rust away. The bluing will have a bald spot where the rust had been.

Fine (very fine) steel wool and oil. Don’t get too aggressive with the steel wool.

Okay, I'll try it and post up when done.

I have reworked/restored several over the years and a couple on here (search “ugly gun”) and there are a couple easy ways to go about it. I am a fan of super fine steel wool and oil then touch up the areas that require attention. If you are anywhere near BCS or Granger (will be there this weekend) I am more than happy to assist.

Just posted this on a another thread a few day's ago.

1 part molasses and 9 parts water will eat the rust off. Leave it in there for a week.

Do a google search if you like. it works.

As you probably know, that’s not a S&W revolver. Still, assuming it’s mechanically sound, it could be a cool project. I’d (carefully) remove the grips and spray/apply a liberal coat of some penetrating oil for several days and see where you are then.

Please provide updates and photos when you can.

                      Good luck.

                      Regards,

                      Dave
