Years ago we had a 9-10 year old buck that practically lived at a protein feeder. He would take naps inside the pen. I had several hundred photos of him. No one ever saw that deer on the hoof. I assume he finally died of natural causes.

That’s what I would do. I would also take a different approach in than you have in the past, if that is an option. He may be bedded by the road you drive in on, so walking may spook him out as well.

Ironic thing is she I watched him for an hour last Friday, I drove in, corned the roads and parked in the normal spot. He walked out of the brush not 50 yards from the truck.
