A different kind of fire pit - backyard cauldron

Took the second of 2 tank ends I bought last summer (used the first to make a pit for my brother) and finally finished the pit for the back yard. Hanging cauldron style. Used a Boss Buck feeder topper, cut some legs and welded feet for it. Welded a winch plate on and recycled one of my feeder winches to raise and lower the bowl. Now I can raise or lower it depending on if we are sitting or standing around it.

Be careful with the cables. Heat really decreases their strength.

I would swap the cables out with a heavy chain. I've got two tank ends and believe I need to make one of these also.

Noted. The cable's load rating is x8 what the bowl weighs and if I see signs of fatigue I'll likely swap the "handle" part out with chain as suggested

Probably want to replace with stainless steel or Inconel wire rope. I think they make ceramic rope, too, for open-flame situations. Carbon steel does not like temperatures over 800°F.

                      Awesome looking pit.

This is correct! After 800 temper embrittlement will occur in long term exposure.
