Buncha youngsters. For us in the 70’s it was Fairchild Hall, Riverside Hall, and Snug Harbor in Liverpool.

What defines “best” in a Honky Tonk MrDog?

IMO, Any college town honky tonk on Thursday night.

Hurricane Harrys in College Station and the Hall of Fame (deceased) in Bryan were absolute meat markets on Thursdays during the semester. Dance floors packed and everyone is/was sweaty. City Limits was fun the time I went.

I bagged my Brood mare at the Hall during a Kevin Fowler concert.

All the old school dancers leave around 9 when the juke joint starts really jumping.

Nowadays, I judge a honky tonk by the size of the dance floor and the amount of dance floor standarounders. The bigger floor the better and the less standarounders the better, because I move far, fast and turn her alot.
Gruene Hall is almost too small.
The Broken Spoke is too small.
Copeland Dancehall is almost too small.
Billy Bobs is perfect.
Shroeder was perfect.
Gillys in Ft Worth was okay.
Granger Cotton Club is worth mention.

Good choices! Three of my hangouts in the mid 90s to early 2000s...Red River was probably my favorite.

In the early 90s in my later college days, Good Luck Rodeo in Lewisville was a good one as was Benchmark in Denton, although it was short-lived.....

Floores Country Store was a great dancehall back in the day. It is OK as a concert venue. So many great dancehalls to list. But the small-town dance halls where the best.

Schroeder Hall
Quihi Gun Club
Ed's River Palace
Kendalia Hall
The Cabaret in Bandera
Arky Blues
Copeland inn and Dance Hall
The Wishing Well
Kickers Palace
Anhalt Dancehall
Twin Sisters
Blue Bonnet Palace
The Cotton Club
The Lumberyard (Round Rock)

I much prefer and always did prefer the old dancehalls/honky-tonk to the big city ones.

Last time I drove by 7/8 years ago wasn’t anything but a slab. Spent a lot of time there up until it closed, my parents were on Manvels VFD and they held all of the auctions there. Danced with a lot of girls that where way to pretty for me when I started goin as a teenager

That’s a beer joint Mike, not a Honky Tonk.

A honky was would be the old Sundance in cold springs or Texas dance hall in Huffman.

Spent a many a night in Cadillac Ranch and Johnny B. Daltons.

Southern Junction in Rockwall was where we went in the mid 90's, saw Gary Stewart there.
If it was slow we would go to the Star in Greenville
