What are your plans to get one on the ground this late in the season?

Here in Etx in my past experince it doesnt get good until Now till Christmas.

To many acorns in our area. I gotta think we will hit another hard cold snap in next few weeks to get them out.

As dclifton said, lots of acorns and too warm. They’re wearing their winter coats and aren’t gonna move much in 75* weather. They sure aren’t coming to feeders. They are slowly coming back to food plots but very early or very late. If we can get some colder weather maybe I’ll get lucky. If not I’ll have to break out the .50 caliber Encore.

As far as the acorns go...our trees are still loaded, and it sounds like rain on every roof around the farm. It isn't bothering me, I'm glad the deer have plenty to eat

Late season usually brings a few big boys cruising down the creek, looking for the odd lady who didn't get bred in the first couple of rounds of the rut. So time spent in the seat is my plan

The deer that were nocturnal are now making appearances in the late morning to early afternoon here in North Texas. They aren't hitting feeders either. Hopefully I can setup on one of their travel corridors and hunt late morning to early afternoon.

We have not seen a shooter buck on camera at our little place since early October - not at feeders, not on trails, nowhere. So, it's not much of a plan but my strategy is to spend as much time as I can in the stand and hope for the best.

Keep hunting. Spending more time scouting during these warm day hunts than sitting in the stand. Found some good spots in the Sam with plenty of sign. Not too many people hitting the general area and Im just going further through thicker stuff than I think most will go. Without blowing up the spot. Found some bedding. Just need the cold and a few days during the week to nail em.

I already got one but normally I try to focus on hunting feeders near our food plots late season. We have had some bucks show up the past week or so that we haven't seen on camera in a couple months, nice to know some of them are still alive, we also have deer hitting feeders all times of day, if schedule permits sit for a while.

I haven't shot a thing this year other than a pig in August and a couple dove. We've been covered in sports. Planning to change that this weekend and a bunch during the holidays with my boys.

Wow, good responses.
This is the first year in a long time where I havent seen a trophy buck. Small “future” bucks. One legal 6pt. Saw 4 deer all of Nov, which is also unusual. Its Dec and White Oak acorns are still falling, that is also very unusual. I would say “typical” SETx season, but thats not true either.
So with all that being said, Im gonna hunt terrain features that funnel deer or common travel routes. Maybe a “community” scrape. I have 4-6 hunts left. Then its tag soup for me.
Keep it coming fellers, maybe you will jog my old memory.

I go out to scout in November and early December it doesn’t kickoff around Christmas when we see any decent buck come out except for the young deer coming to the feeders

Now is the time to start chasing the big boys. Been too much natural graze for the animals on our lease. Need one more hard freeze and we should be good to go plus we are MLD so have until end of February

Cover, cover, cover. Now that the mass majority of deer have been pushed into their “safe places” I hunt the edges.

Late/last part of season they may be back on food sources that I’ve left unhunted for that reason

My bow hunting strategy is to hang up the bow and break out the 308. All of my bow setups have lost their cover, so I'll probably be hunting boxes and blinds the rest of the month (end of our season). Seeing a couple new decent bucks on camera, but I'll get busted drawing the bow. May try to run across a cedar tree for a stand, but doubt it.

With the bad drought out west, I haven't seen anything that would turn my crank, so probably nothing. We are pretty down and I don't want to shoot anything that might take off next year, so I'm in camp bieaatch mode. Have a few mgmt deer on the list and will be bringing a buddy's son out to hopefully shoot his first buck and some more does in December. On a year like this, I'd rather that happen than me kill a buck just to draw blood.. If a stranger shows up, I'll definitely shoot though..

This weather reminds me of the warm season we had last year . I'm on public again this year. And have only been out one evening so far. I'm also banking on a draw hunt I got for Jan 6-8th in a very popular place. Hopefully, lots of axis will fall on that one . Otherwise, it's chicken and turkey all year again . I don't eat beef or domestic pork anymore. Just wild red meat.

It's been slow and un-interesting around our neck of the woods, but I can't complain after the last several years. Besides, my son got him a nice one in Oklahoma with his grandpa. I moved a few cameras around, and baited them up, but it's whatever for me. Got a buddy's kiddo that I hope to get on his first doe and pig before the year is over, but that's about the size of it. Need to kill a few does.
