Last Wednesday evening I got a shot at an old 7 pt that is a tank. When he was at 7 yards and quartering away I released the arrow and immediately realized My bottom limb had hit my stand and caused the arrow to impact too far back. I watched him run off with my arrow and just felt sick. I was sure I needed to leave him over night. The next morning I took Scout, my JR Terrier, and we took up the trail. The pigs had came in that night and literally turned the entire place upside down. So, trailing was not easy especially since this place was clear cut 4 years ago and has grown back unbelievably thick. We trailed the deer about 150 yards and the blood stopped. I was on my hands and knees for over an hour and could not pick the trail back up. We grid searched the area the deer had been traveling until dark. The next day in rained all day, but I saw a few buzzards flying in that area. I went in the rain and walked the area again, nothing. Finally Sunday afternoon I went in one more time to look and by a miracle I walked straight to it. Very bitter sweet.
