heres mine this is a surface find from Menard Tx. little help

Well we start with a tough one. Im going to say it is a Lange just judging from one pic and not being able to see the flaking. Middle Archaic.

isn't a Lang a bigger point then that.. looking at my book it has the same look i would say your prob right

Copper87, the point you have is seriously exhausted. Been resharpened many times. it was origionally much larger. Exhausted points are always tough because we don't have a clear idea of how they looked new.

It appears to be an axe? It's sharpened completely on one side. It's got some heft to it

It is a chopper. I will try to take some pictures tonight of some common South Texas points and post them for others to ID their points.

I've got a few. All were found on my old lease between Freer and Laredo. I found close to 100 in the three years I hunted there.

The black one was by far the best arrow head I've ever found.

Here's some of what I found last weekend. Mainly tools/scrapers, pre-forms and brokes, but I am not sure what to call the point on the top row second from left with the broken base on one side. It's about 3.5". I'd guess it to be some kind of knife?

I don't think it is a kerville, they usually are very finely made and the one pictured is pretty crude. Also, the cortex end is larger than the blade and for the size of a kerville the blade is pretty thin.

This is just an handful from my wifes grandfathers collection. He lived in Corsicana but owned a junk shop and traded a lot for all of his adult life. Who knows where these came from. These are just the ones I have in my possession. The second skinny one is completely clear.

I hate to say it man but I believe those are all imitations. I know an old man in Corsicana that has personally made me some that look exactly like that

i found a bunch of points like these that were really small on an island in richland chambers lake years ago. about quarter size and really serated. i was told they were cerimonoial and bird points but i really dont know. they were lost in my house fire in 2010 so i dont have any pics. so i guess im lying

That is a type of real point but on these notice how there is no wear or "age" to them

I havent seen the full collection. These are the ones my mother inlaw took out for us to have because the looked nice. I still need to get you out to look at it all. There just hasnt been a good time yet.

He may have been very busy. There are several rubber maid tubs full. I just havent seen whats inside.

Also the third point to its left. It is kinda bell shaped and pointing down.

Second is a petried wood Gary. About 3000 years old. Next is another friley and an Alba. 1000 years old. Then the two Knives....geez... I would really like to hear the story on who, how and where they were found! Not specifically where but part of the state.

Steve, the two blades were less than a foot away from each other when I found them. Trust me my heart sank!! They seem to pe on great condition from what I, a rookie, can tell. As far as part of the state, right outside of longview not even 10 miles.

They are very nice and I suspected they were together. I would be willing to bet there are three or four more of them in the dirt right there. You might want to go back and dig a little. I am going to call those Delhi even though they don't perfectly match the type. The reason I say that is there was a middle archaic trade route through East tx and often points identical to that were made in a "generic" style to be traded. These points virtually always come in cache groups of 4-8 blades.

Tim, those are a little too damaged for me to positively ID. I will say though that the point on the left is ancient. It is probably a rootbeer color in reality. The white on it is purely patina that grows on Edwards chert. If you knocked a little piece of, it woiuld amaze you to see the original color inside. It took many thousands of years to grow that patina over the flaking.

Garguy, those are typical Deep South Texas points. I bet they are from webb county or neiboring counties. The angled teardrop shape is a desmuke and the triangles are either matamoros or tortuga depending on size, both can have concave and thinned bases. I literally have thousands of them from Webb.

Thanks Reelthreat. Classic or not, there is a wide variety in that frame and some of them are old. I would like a closer look. I see Tortugas in there. Look close and you might also see a Folsom.

hard to tell with the stick and lashing. Its something middle Archaic.... Edit darl would fit.
