We are starting to see a lot more protein and cottonseed consumption on our place. The fresh green growth is getting taller and less digestible so they are hitting the feeders harder.

We’re in Schleicher county and we have about one protein feeder per section (640 acres). That being said starting about May through August some of our feeders (2000 lb) go dry within 2-3 weeks. We have no real exotic populations just whitetail. Not sure if something is wrong or we just have that many deer.

I have always suggested the better question is how much protein per animal?
I feed about 10 tons per month. I estimate I have 330 deer, or 2 lbs per deer per day on average.
Hope this helps.
