Default Weather guys

I keep hearing of a possible cold front/blast or whatever these people call it now days about 10 days out or so. They are saying possible record lows happening and it sticking around a bit. I’m here to hear from the real experts and see some data.

Ask me in about 14 days. I should have a pretty good handle on it by then.

My weather channel app shows nothing close to that in the ten day forecast.

Accuweather shows the same.

We have bitter cold coming down on Sunday that may sink into North Texas by Monday or so they are saying.
Possible big snow for us, ugh... again.

My local weather out of Waco says for next weekend ‘At this time, we’re not forecasting wintry weather in Central Texas but the signals for wintry weather are slowly starting to pop up in forecast model data.’

Granted it's for Houston, but if it's getting to the low 40s here, north of here will be much colder.

Weather app is already showing winter weather Wed/Thursday for DFW. Long ways out, we are due for our annual freezing rain.

Hard to say if record breaking cold but the duration of sub freezing weather coupled with numerous waves of precipitation would be my concern. As we approach next week we could be looking at a significant ice storm for texas. As we get closer we will know more but the setup is coming together. Just in case, I'm getting the generator and extension cords ready.

The Op is not referring to the cold front coming next week. What he’s referring to is another polar vortex winter storm coming down. Some sources are suggesting similar to Uri, 2 years ago. Your weather apps and weathermen won’t report on it until it’s definitive.

NWS ft worth office now talking about it in recent discussion:

Sunday`s cold front will bring an end to the precipitation event
and set the stage for an unseasonably chilly week. Largely zonal
flow above the invading arctic air will keep the bitter cold
confined to the Upper Midwest, but daytime temperatures across
North and Central Texas will steadily fall through the middle of
the week. As an upstream trough approaches, veering southwesterly
flow aloft will return rain chances early in the week and maintain
this unsettled weather on Tuesday and Wednesday when temperatures
dip below freezing. Rain could transition to freezing rain Monday
night into Tuesday morning in areas north and west of the Dallas/
Fort Worth Metroplex. The process would repeat Tuesday night into
Wednesday morning when the freezing line will progress further to
the southeast, and the depth of the sub-freezing layer may be
sufficient for sleet. These details will come into better focus as
the event approaches, including the potential impacts to travel.

Always get February & March bad cold fronts around Abilene. Remember the 2020 Power Outages? It was below 20 degrees for a week straight in Groesbeck.

Looks like about six computer models are now in agreement that it will be cold and slow to move out. The map that I saw showed the cold as far south as about I-10. Maybe some precipitation early through mid next week. I hope they are right.

I think they’re hobbyists and relying on The Farmers Almanac. I haven’t seen any models showing any kind of Polar Vortex making it down here, so I don’t know what they’re seeing. I guess time will tell.

I’ve been hearing about another polar vortex for a couple of weeks from my meteorologist buddy. He’s saying it’s going to pay us a visit early next week, and hang around awhile. I always take his predictions with a grain of salt, because things can change so much, but more times than not, he’s been right. We’ll be skiing in Crested Butte next week, and he’s saying it’s going to be COLD, like -35* cold at night.

Yep, which is why the guys that do it for a living wait until is week or so out before they comment on it.

I love the cold, but I’d rather be in it up in The Rockies rather than down here where our homes and landscapes aren’t made for it.

Who knows; God does have a sense of humor and we just might be going into a “Global Cooling” period, lol.

You guys in Middle section of Texas area better get ready for ice and freezing rain. It's coming next week. If the wind blows at all, power lines will break loose and there will be power outages, as well as tree damage.

True- seems somewhere between 2/10 and 2/20 always delivers the worst of winter that we see.

This is valid for 2/27, that’s a long way off, but models are hinting at arctic air. This forecast model doesn’t really translate to super cold for Texas. That intrusion position and angle would put most of Texas on the western edge and the core of the cold east of us.

But we are talking 2 weeks out. Lots can change

I posted his link in the storm thread a couple of days ago. He shows the models and gives a good explanation of what may or is likely to happen. His isn’t always doom and gloom sensationalism either. I have seen the national weather service show a line of possibly heavy storms somewhere the country for the next day. He might add, yes it is possible but this dry line is doing this and that outflow is doing that and I don’t think that area is going to be hit that hard but stay aware.

A couple of weeks ago he was giving he giving an update on similar storms as we had a couple days ago. He said something like I don’t see it really picking up until it gets out halfway through Louisiana, then Mississippi and Alabama might be in for it. I think Alabama ended up having more than a dozen tornadoes and several deaths.

Great, we'll be down end of Feb. for our annual hog hunt. Really hoping it is warmer down there than up here but as usual cold will probably follow us down.

The bitter cold is taking it's time getting to us but roads are still closed, I-80, across the state this morning. Supposed to get here tonight.
Might be later sinking down into Texas.

Praying it doesn’t get that cold. I’m worried that with the mild winter thus far it will zap the grass and set back grazing late into spring. I barely have enough hay to get me into March, so that would be killer for me.

The hour is upon us. Get Michael Irvin on the phone and start canceling independent school districts for several days. Could be more sleet than ice in dfw but prepare for power outages as forecasted qpf has increased in recent model runs. You dont want to be ill prepared if the power goes out and you are likely going to be stuck at home as the streets will be bad

I would not be surprised if models don’t bust by 8-10 degrees. Forecast for me in Lubbock today when I went to bed was for a high of 42°. Adjusted to 38° by morning forecast runs. It’s 2pm and hasn’t budged off 27°, got a long way to go to even touch that 38, and I doubt we get above freezing today.
