Drove around Anahuac, Winnie Etc this AM. Didn't see many birds ,but I'm sure they are there, just not where I could see them. Lots of big flooded flats on the closed part of the refuge & around Jenkins were empty. That surprised me. They won't be like that after the shooting starts. LOL!
Will go run west & Sw of houston friday.
Will be seeing a lot of these starting Sat!

Killed two wigeons this morning. Didn't hardly see any birds at all. Was shocked to not see any teal or pintails. When we left the house this morning the wind was blowing to the north instead of the usual south, I think it definitely had the birds a bit hunkered down. Will be back at them again in the morning.

Finished with 21 between 6 of us and 2 of us never fired a shot and were focusing on dogs with it being the first hunt of the year.

Didn’t see near as many birds as yesterday and they didn’t like something about our blind as majority were flaring.

Back at it tomorrow at a new spot and I’ll be firing shots manana

17 for 3 of us in Garwood this AM. bonus band on one. Buddy had a limit down the road. Most of the other hunts I heard of were a few birds short of limits for a group.

Another Great morning on the Garwood prairie. Me & my son hunted & got limits this AM. Working good this mornin so ,I pulled out the 28 ga. Makes it even more fun shooting the small gauges. Lots of hunters out again & pretty good amount of shooting. Ready for day 3 already!

Solid hunt this AM and we finished with 24 birds.

Saw maybe 1/3 of the birds we saw yesterday.

Anybody have any details on the huge bust that happened somewhere on the prairie Saturday? The only details i have heard so far is that the outfit shredded a rice field and the GW’s found it and sat on it, even brought in federal guys. Opening day rolls around and the outfitter sends 36 clients to said field. All **** limits quick only to show back up to the trucks to a ton of green jeans waiting on them. Supposedly they let them all shoot their birds to stick it to them on every count they could. That’s al i have heard up to this point. I feel for the clients that had no clue and just get it strapped to them.

So in this presumptive case what did they do that was illegal? Shred the rice?

Yes shredding it made it a baited field per the Feds.

What i heard is farmer or outfitter shredded an uncut rice field & someo
ne tipped off the GW's. Hunters were brought in & when through got busted. Don't know if it is true, but supposedly all the hunters were let off ,but party responsible for shredding got 36 baited field tickets. Just what I heard.

Pretty sure you hit the nail on the head. I dont think any of the hunters had any idea, and weren't fined.

I like that ending better than the hunters getting stuck with it if they didn't know about it.

I hope that is what actually happened David. I'd hate to see all those hunters get fined for something they had no idea they were participating in.

What area of the prairie did this allegedly occur? I never knew of a farmer that would shred standing rice. I have heard of a few outfitters shredding/rolling second crop and getting into hot water. The desire to kill a duck will make men do strange things.

By the law ,you (the hunter) are responsible for knowing if it is baited or not & believe me it is VERY gray on interpretations of baiting.. Hopefully it turned out good for the hunters.
