I've really gotten into Whitechapel in the past few years. A few good ones to cut your teeth on:

- I, Dementia
- The Saw Is the Law
- Black Bear
- Bring Me Home
- Hickory Creek

Sylosis has Great Music Tunes, but I HATE the singing.

I wish there was a band that played similar tunes with a singer who wasn't so obnoxious, angry and I could understand...

I think he sounds pretty good?? Do you want Josh Groban singing?

He sounds a bit like the singer for Soilwork. They are pretty bad *** too. Speaking of, they have a new song out that is pretty dang good. Death Diviner.

Based on your recommendation of Soilwork you're a no hit wonder.

I've heard them many times on Liquid Metal. They are definitely more Def Leppard than Cannibal Corpse. Lol.

I don't think it would sound right without aggressive vocals, but that's just me. They have a few songs here and there that predominately have clean vocals, but those songs are softer in general.

I came across a band call Disarmonia Mundi while catching up on the new Soilwork music I've missed. They sound a lot like In Flames with better vocals.

For the record, BoB, Slayer and LOG are my bands, so I do have a hit or 2 under my belt.

For some reason, I find myself playing Resurrection Man over and over. From the 3:00 mark on is probably the highlight of LOG's latest release.

Not sure if y'all have found this in your trucks, but I hear a lot of good music, new and old here. https://www.radio.com/metalmilitia/listen

Here's a few that I like that aren't mentioned.
Crowbar - Planets Collide (this is an old song, but it sounds present day)
Mastodon - The Motherload, and Oblivion
Shadows Fall - Redemption
Baroness - Borderlines

Mastodon is about the only new-ish Metal band that I don’t mind listening to.

As much as I used to like metal, I’m kinda tired of getting yelled at for no reason. Been listening to a lot of Staind here lately—who knows what I’ll be playing next week though.

Yes! Classics from the formative years! I would add, in no particular order:

Michael Schenker Group
Armoured Saint,
Mercyful Fate
Celtic Frost
Motorhead
Early Judas Priest
Slayer
Dio
Megadeth
Testament

Oldies but goodies!!!!!!

I heard a song or 2 from Demolisher. It was pretty good, but I am not a hardcore metal guy and have only heard a song or 2 of theirs.

So give Demolisher: Slaughter to Prevail a listen

Some great ones mentioned here. I'll throw Mudvayne out as one that I enjoy and has not been mentioned yet. Not as heavy as some mentioned, but I believe they fall into the category.

If you like counting, I recommend listening to Meshuggah - Bleed. Try counting the bass drum kicks and how many are in each set of BRRRRTA. It’s like counting the rounds from an A-10 as they are incoming to your position

I taught my 12yr old son how to play the intro to South of Heaven. Then I got to explain why someone would sing about south of Heaven, why even though they are totally awesome he probably shouldn’t be listening to Slayer yet, and also just what the heck is his dad doing listening to Slayer if he shouldn’t be listening to Slayer. It was a weird bonding, bad parenting, uhh how bout we just get back to tormenting the family with our horrible guitar playing kind of moment.

It’s not hardcore metal per se but I’ve got all kinds of stories from the Dallas area in the late 90’s.

I used to roadie a lot for some friends. Nothing big but it would get me into bars for free. My roommate at the time was in a little band called Slack. They never made it but the lead singer was incredible. Dave never forgot a face or a name. He had stage presence like no one I had ever seen and he knew how to work a crowd. Well, Slack ended up going their separate ways and Dave ended up singing for a little band that made it pretty good. Dave Williams was the lead singer for Drowning Pool. We miss you Dave.

Back in the late 90’s, there used to be a “practice warehouse” on the north/north east side of Dallas right off of 635. It was 2 story and had narrow halls with tons of rooms everywhere that bands would rent out to go practice in. Spent a lot of time up there. Saw Erika Badu on many occasions and several guys from Pantera too. They could come and go without too many people harassing them. Big names would show up on occasion and you couldn’t tell who was there due to the number of people around them.

Went to MANY concerts. Saw Tool play a 2 hour set after the Melvins got booed off stage. Maynard refused to come back to Dallas for a long time after that. Saw Korn, Limp Biscuit, Ice Cube, and Rahmstein at a Family Values tour. The show got stopped in the middle of Rahmstein’s set when people in the crowd decided to start lighting shirts on fire and throw them up into the box seats in Fair Park Colosseum. Lights got turned on, fire extinguishers were going off, and someone came over the PA and told everyone to settle down or the show is over. Saw White Zombie right before Rob decided to go out on his own.

So many shows, so many fond memories!!!

I’ve never listened to them. I guess as I’ve gotten older I kinda slowed down on the real hard stuff.

About as hard as I like is Mastodon and Gojira. The rest is hard rock and prog metal.

Nobody likes Rob Zombie? I need to go see him live in concert someday. I think it'd be awesome.

I've been listening to Black Label Society here lately. They're not new by any means but I like 'em.

As I Lay Dying is another band I haven't seen mentioned.

Y'all should also check out Fit For a King. Lioness is the first song I ever heard from them but they have some others that are pretty awesome.

Let me see what else.....In Flames. Where Dead Ships Dwell.

CKY-96 Quiet Bitter Beings. Has to be in my top 10 favorite songs of all time.

Killswitch Engage-My Last Serenade.

You would get along with a buddy of mine who is always sending me the bands you mentioned.

I guess I’ll give them another shot. I loved Rob Zombie in my 20’s and still jam White Zombie but haven’t listened to Rob Zombie since I was listing to his brother in Powerman 5000.

The new BLack Label album is great and I’ve been jamming that since it came out.

If my son wasn’t such a troll I would have him get an account and join in on this thread! I don’t know how I raised a metal head, but he is deep into it! He has a battle vest covered in patches that he has hand sewn himself…
Megadeth, Messugah, obituary, death, Metallica, Pantera, Carcass, Amon amarth, lamb of god and a bunch of others I can’t think of at the moment…

I guess I’ll give them another shot. I loved Rob Zombie in my 20’s and still jam White Zombie but haven’t listened to Rob Zombie since I was listing to his brother in Powerman 5000.

The new BLack Label album is great and I’ve been jamming that since it came out.

That started out ok and then the vocals came in. Yikes. Does he try to sound like Ozzy or is it just coincidental?

X2 for As I Lay Dying, them and August Burns Red got me into metal. Lambesis is/was one heck of a screamer.

Dude it’s Zakk Wylde.

Don’t act like you’ve never heard him sing
