Tool is heavy and transcendental, and has been my favorite band for 28 years, but I don’t know that I would call it metal.

How about Jason Newsted’s project? Simple, straightforward, and made all Metallica fans realize that Lars and James were a couple prima donnas that drove off a really solid bass player and a hell of a backup vocalist.

For the Tool/prog fans: Have y'all heard Tesseract? They kind of have the same vibe. Good band.

Bringing this back up. Sylosis was not on my radar before!

Surprisingly yes but the original vocalist died of an opioid overdose a few years back. They still tour though.

From what Josh said in an interview earlier this year, he was pretty much done with Sylosis in 2016 (as in ending the band). Long story short, he was going to start a new band, and started writing songs for it. He sent the demos to the record label & his manager, and they both said, "This just sounds like Sylosis". I'm glad they did

Going technical on us, huh? I used to listen to these guys a while back. I always liked the riffs, but the "yelling" vocals they had scattered throughout the songs didn't seem to fit. I don't know, just didn't sound right with this style of metal.

Yea I've seen psycroptic a few times. I preferred the original vocalist on the early albums. Their newest album is pretty good though. Same with decapitated. The new vocals just don't do it for me.

No problem.

Unfortunately, Trees Of Eternity doesn't exist anymore. The vocalist died from cancer before their only album was released. I guess technically, they weren't really a "band". It was just a side project with the vocalist (Aleah Stanbridge) and her boyfriend, Juha Raivio (main songwriter for Swallow The Sun). I really like Swallow The Sun's latest album, by the way.

How does a man who hunts make a correlation between music and whether they hunt or not?

I prefer "adrenaline inducing" music to a lot of other genres. And I'm able to skin a buck and run a trotline.

Lamb of God rules. The only band that can hang with Slayer live. They recently passed Sepultura as my second favorite band of all time. They did it via the 5 live shows with Slayer the last couple of years.

I like death metal and some of the new stuff but it just doesn't compare to Slayer and Lamb of god live.

I saw them live in 2009 a few months after "Wrath" was released. I think it's been about ten years since I've been to a concert, to be honest.
