    What Caliber

So let me start off by saying I really don't need a new gun. I feel what I currently own will take care of pretty much anything I want to do. With that being said I really want to build a high end gun. I am just not sure what caliber I want. I own a .223/.556, .243, .257WBY, 7mm I primarily hunt east tx with the occasional trip to south tx or west tx. What should I build? leaning toward a 30 caliber just not sure which one.

I agree, with what you have, a .30 cal would round out nicely.

If you buy commercial ammo, consider a caliber that you can buy at WalMart (assuming they have ammo again one day). If you want to make sure you could do an elk or Nilgai hunt some day, consider a lightweight, short barreled .30 caliber rifle. I know it's boring, but I think my next build will be a .308. Load it with 150s for deer and such and 200+ for elk, Nilgai. There are tons of accurate factory rounds. You would need a longer barrel but .300 WinMag would also be a great choice. I think you could buy ammo for either in Arica pretty easy too if you happen to go on a plans game hunt.

For a short action short barrel, the 300 RCM Ruger Compact Magnum
For a long action longer barrel, the 300 PRC
                Anything but a belted case.

Sign me up for the 300wm with a good muzzle brake. I’m running a Area 419 Hellfire on my APR and it works great.
