Rattlecan paint job on a rusty 870.

I hate 870’s. Anyway, got this for free a while back. Thing grows rust, no matter how much oil I soak it in. Got tired and bored this evening.

Couple hundred rubber bands and some twine got this thing looking a lot better.

Looks good. Those cheap 870’s are bad about rusting with that textured finish.

I used Rust-o-leum camo paint. That stuff is great.

Turned out great! Had a buddy do that to one several years ago and it has held up extremely well.

Use the Aluma Hyde II from Brownells if you want a durable permanent finish. Takes about five days to dry but it is as good as most baked on finishes. When you can longer smell the coating it has been fully cured. I have a Remington 870 I did in camo for a truck gun about 5 years ago and it still looks new and never rusts. You do not have to strip the original finish just degrease it with brake parts cleaner let it dry and spray. Buy the extra spray tips as they usually clog after each use.
