Anyone ever had to get a replacement title for an outboard? How difficult was it? I’m considering buying a used boat and the owner has titles to boat but lost the title to motor. He says he can apply for a lost or replacement title. Just don’t know how this works or how long it can take .

If you have the motor serial number, PWL can tell you who the titled owner is. If it is him, he will have to get a replacement title before he can transfer it to you. While you are at it, make sure he has the title or current registration in his name for the trailer also.
GW's are getting more serious on Motor titles. Had one pull up my little 8 hp and tell me that it was not titled. Gave me a warning ticket and said that he would check in a few weeks and that it better be titled by then. I had bought it new and had the MFG cert of origin so getting the title was no problem, I was just trying to avoid the sales tax. |

Not much of a problem for me..
I called TPWD. They sent a Game Warden to my house. He took the numbers, off the motor. And told me, if it was clean background. I'd get a new title in the mail.. Yep, showed up about a month later.. |

PWL has a lost title form he has to fill out if it is titled in his name.It takes about a month to get the new title.I bought a boat from a friend who had to do this,it was a painless process. We went to the PWL office in Beaumont and they walked us through it.

IF you buy now, make him agree to let you hold a considerable amount until he delivers title.

34-- yea I was a bit surprised myself..
I've bought and sold, a few boats in my life. But I never had a GW come to my house.. The GW name was Lee Dycus...I'm not sure which office he works out of.. But, he's one heck of a GW.. Shout out to Lee...!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
