Default 459.7lb Boar Hog?

Not sure if you all saw on Facebook yesterday where this hog was entered for ďThe Hunting GameĒ hog contest. Payout I believe is $77,000.

First and foremost, I donít want to discredit the hunters. I donít know them and I want to give these hunters the benefit of doubt. Congrats to these guys, this is an accomplishment.

Respectfully, I donít know how a wild boar can retain this much weight naturally. I donít know how itís physically possible. So many questions
1) What were they feeding? How much fat and protein are in the feed?
2) Were they using dewormer feed?
3) Is it possible this hog has a hormonal/pituitary imbalance?

Would like to open this up for discussion and if you havenít seen it yet checkout ďThe Hunting GameĒ on Facebook.

Haven’t checked out the article, but I know back in the day to win hog contest, people would trap and feed out the hogs. When I was a kid, I shot a true 300 pound field dressed boar. That thing looked like a huge black bear and thought had to be 500 pounds. I was in first place at a contest in Carrizo Springs until a guy brought in a hog that dressed 410. It was super fat and no way can get that large eating corn and brush. This was before people fed cottonseed and protein.

I don't Facebook. Why not post the pic?

Now as far as the weight goes, I was a butcher for many years. 600 lb brood hogs are not un common. These often live out in big open fields with free choice feed. The same genetics could get big in the wild with feeders.

I recall a guy last year offering a bunch of money to anyone who finds him a hog big enough to win it. Someone commented that he’s on the team that killed this one lol.

He posted that he’s got pics since 2018 of him. and there’s only 3 pigs on that property. Something ain’t right

I understand and they werenít telling the contest that. They use to give away cash, guns, and other cool items in the contest, so people would bend the rules a bit.

Big hog

Hard for most to get that big in the wild, too much effort has to be put into moving around finding food.
The "hogzilla" from GA was getting all the protein it wanted from a fish farm I think. Those kind of situations make it a lot easier to get huge

Polygraphs are BS. They've been repeatedly beat in bass tournaments. Unfortunately where there is prize money there are going to be cheaters and the threat of a polygraph is the best thing we got.

This hog was on my lease about 4 years ago.

I tried several rifle hunts and trapping using a large pen trap. He never ran with a sounder and never went in the trap but would walk right to the gate and stop. By using a few cell cameras we were target him with dogs.

We weighed 445 on an ag scale. I have a pic with a 90 pound pit laying next to him for reference but don't want to derail the thread. Name: Screenshot_20201018-120320_Photos.jpg

It’s probably pretty easy to grow him on feed, I had 2 old bags of protein feed I dumped here by the house and put a cell camera on it. In 2 days a 200lb boar ate it all by himself. So 100bs of feed in 2 days crazy!

If you take one and put it in a pen and feed it nothing but grain, they will get that big easy. In the wild not so much. I've seen it.

As to the cheating I'm sure it happens. When that much money is on the table its going to happen.

Trapping or catching with dogs throughout the year then sticking them onto a small high fence would be my first thought. Then it's simple turn off all but one feeder.

I just had a thought. Imagine a bunch of large boars on a high fence and a hot sow walks by on the outside. I believe you'd have a hole in the fence or under it

The guys that run that contest have the integrity of the contest as their number one priority. If they cheated, they’ll find out. So far(4 hour interview later) everything checks out. If anything else comes up, they’ll be on it.

This is the same guy that has been throwing post/add’s all over to pay landowners to put him on a big pig isn’t it? His name I think is Rich?

I have a couple hog traps that I put on peoples property to thin out the hog population for them. Sometimes we will get more than others and when we get several I bring them to a wild hog buyer in Devine. They said they buy between 700 and 1000 hogs a week and have been open for over 10 years. Last week, I brought in a load of big ones, the biggest was 347 pounds. This beat their previous all time record that was previously 327 pounds. I guess my point is that if they buy that many hogs for that amount of time they probably would’ve encountered one over 400 like this one at some point…

You see the word “pay” in there anywhere?

I don’t know these guys. But I know they are being treated wrong so far. Typical social media bs. If they cheated then they should be in deep doodoo.

But at this point, just rumors and cry babies

Happens too often. Guy kills a state record archery buck in East Texas and rather than be happy for a guy that has always killed big deer, everyone second guesses because it didnít come from Dimmit or Grayson county. Turns out itís legit and you get crickets from the peanut gallery.

Iím very skeptical of all the skeptics with all the skepticism. Sometimes people just accomplish great feats.

So if a guy pays 5k to enter a pig in a contest and wins it who cares?

How many haters here paid to enter it?

How is this any different than a parent spending 20k on a show steer and later selling it for 150k? Is that fair or right to the kid who can't spend 20k?

Find deep pockets and play or sit in the bleachers and watch.

He’s soliciting $5k to win $77k. Illegal per the rules. Has nothing to do with deep pockets.

Other question would be how old are those posts? Was that allowed in the past and the promoters put a stop to it last year? Hmmmmm…

Letís clarify the screenshot. It was posted last year BEFORE the rule was put in place about not entering hogs that were paid for. It just so happens the guy that posted that last year, entered hogzilla this year.

They said they have three year history with hogzilla but wanted to pay for a hog last year. Why pay for a hog if you have a monster on your place already?

Weíll probably never know! Regardless. Itís a monster.

Big pig, no doubt he has been eating well.
But he also has 50 pounds of mud on him.

this whole thread is why contest are not fun anymore

But the rules also state that no pigs from a high fence, regardless of the size of property, are allowed in the contest. The rules also say that the hog can not be field dressed, so that adds another 50?? pounds to the total?

If they have trail camera pics/video couldnt they just go to the location and verify where it was killed? We have killed some really big hogs over the years, a couple around 400, its possible around farm land

Our biggest is 468 lbs came from a field in bishop tx , and many pushing 400+ , the farm land SW of corpus is full of massive hogs

I don’t understand tournament mentality , and it’s need to fudge the rules
