    New Mexico Ibex

Has anyone hunted New Mexico Ibex? The draw process is difficult but I here that it is more likely to draw with a bow. In order to apply I have to pay in advance for the $1600 license but wanted to know what my odds are, I don't want to pay that and it take years and years. I plan to use and outfitter so using their number makes my odds go up, but if it is going to be a long process I will not put in the effort.

It’s a straight lottery. It make take one year. Might take a decade. Draw odds are low. But you’re not fighting preference points. Cant draw if you don’t try.

I'll assume after Rinella just released his episode hunting them the odds will be a little tougher the next few years.

I've been putting in for probably 5-6 years with no luck...

Didn't know Rinella did an episode about it, I'm sure that will send draw odds quickly down to nothing.

I think they were a gift from the Shaw of Iran.

They used to have otc tags not sure if they still do. They were what they called “off range” and if you didn’t know where they were your odds of killing one were slim to none. Not sure if there’s outfitters doing any otc hunts. Either way they return your draw fees fairly quickly after you are unsuccessful. But like others have said you’ll never draw if you don’t put in and anything worth having doesn’t come easy.

Looking at go hunt, the odds have been steadily going down every year. If the meat eater did a show that won't help.

The late Archery hunt looks better for guided odds.

You know the story, can't win if you down apply.

Of all things I have had a tag out there twice. I drew an archery tag first and then the once in a lifetime rifle tag. Tough mountain but awesome experience and cool animals.

Archery ibex. One of the toughest archery hunts I have done!!!

Rifle Billy. Saw some even bigger ones but this guy had cool shape and was in range. I have them both mounted together.

You have to pay $1600 every time you apply?

Yes you pay all New Mexico tag costs up front and you’re refunded if you don’t draw
