Looks big enough. What are you trying to water?

Plenty big. Bigger you go, more evaporation.

crimp a piece of chicken wire over the edge and all the way down to the bottom of the bucket, any insects that get in the water can normally get out by climbing up

                When it's dry, that's a better draw than corn/protein

Learn from my mistake and use a steel-mesh wrapped water hose like the ones for washing machines. I used a short piece of garden hose and some critter bit it, drained the whole storage tank.

We put 100 gallon troughs on our place, then weigh it down with a stack of rocks in the trough to allow critters a chance to get out and most importantly keep the pigs from moving the trough and breaking the attachments to the float when it goes empty. Use PVC or Pex instead of water hose unless you want to come back to an empty water tank.

I have 4 of them on bowls about the same size as yours. Two in Eldorado and two in Del Rio. Both places are very dry right now. The deer are constantly at my water stations. You will save water from evaporation with one this size vs larger ones. All the deer will still be able to drink. Also I installed pvc pipe instead of a water hose. Initially I had a hose but it didn’t last long in that dry hot weather.

I planned on using pex. I'm a plumber so that's the easy part.

I used the stainless steel washing machine hose, with PVC covering part of it, and it held up to 5* for a week during the freeze.

Question for the guys using the 275gal totes as a water storage tank; how long does a tote full of water last?
