Best bait I have found is cracked corn... I just sprinkle over my traps. On this design you could push it into the peanut butter.

Start "adopting" any cats you run across. And keep them in the barn. You will have to feed and water them there so they will stay around. A good pair of cats will cause hell on a mouse or rat population and eventually the rats learn that is dangerous territory and they move out.

Tagged. I have had an issue with them in my garden and garage. I declared war as well. I have caught/killed about 5. Seems to have scared them away or exterminated them, but we shall see.

Nothing so far. May need to tinker with it.

I read a story of someone with a similar issue with rats.

Don't how true it was but supposedly he set up a live trap. Caught two rats and put them together. He gave them water but no food. Eventually the bigger rat turned on the smaller rat and ate it.

Once the big rat had a taste for rat, he turned that one loose to continue feeding. And supposedly, the guy's rat problem went away.
