Texas Opener
I think I'm just going to photo journal my hunts here through the season.
Evening of September 30th saw me crawling into a sleeping bag in the bed of my truck, with a plan to hike a mile into some public I frequent. Coyotes were howling all night long, and I had even seen a bobcat at last light. I was already having a great hunt, and the season hadn't even started! The plan for the morning was to ease into a spot I picked based off my maps, because my scouting hadn't turned up much sign.
To make a long story short, I picked a great spot, but it's hard to pick a tree in the dark, and I wound up seeing lots of deer, but the only ones in range busted me while I was still looking for the right tree to climb. I eased out fairly early because it was a doe bedding area, the wind was getting iffy, and I wanted to keep it intact for a future hunt. I sat a funnel in the afternoon, but saw a whopping zero deer. Remarkably, I never got a crack at a squirrel, which is usually not an issue where I'm hunting. First blood will have to wait I guess!
