We are back at it in Hunt County for the first time in a month. My youngest is looking for a log tined 9pt we had a bunch of pics of in October and November. I can see a lot of corn on the ground under the feeder and the big pile of rice bran I put out Tuesday looks untouched... Guess we'll see what happens.

I have seen more bucks on my cell cams in the last three days and nights than I have in quiet a while. They are back together and really hitting the alfalfa hay hard. Day and night. Most of the big ones are busted up, Some even missing all their antlers on one side.

Lots of doe movement also.

I was able to kill this old Sabine River Bottom warrior on 12/23 at 9:25 am. He came off a ridge headed into the river bottom. This was a new deer that showed in mid December with only 2 photos. Pretty happy with this old dude. Going to make a beautiful skull mount

Had my Gregg Co. target buck @ 15 yards for 10 minutes this am. Watching though my Binos. He slipped off into his bedding area before legal light (just off my property)

He has slipped by me 3 times so far. Iím back in the stabd now thinking Iíll change that this evening hopefully.

Iíve hunted him since the Sept. opener, he disappeared during the rut, but has been back to stay now for about a week.
Heís coming in 3-4 times a night. Closer to daylight each time.

My dad...God bless him. I have told him OVER and OVER don’t drive the farm during prime deer movement hours. He called me at 5:12 today shaking like a leaf because he was driving to check some cameras at the back of the property, despite having checked them earlier today, and spooked an absolute stud of a buck in the pasture in front of his stand.

We haven’t seen squat all season out there, and we never have bucks around this late, and still he goes and boogers his last best chance. You can’t make this up. Lol

In the scope of all things... Not a big deal. My dad and I had just started hunting together when he died of colon cancer. Enjoy every minute because one day you'll wish you had some more.

Absolutely. And I really shouldn’t have said I ripped in to him. It was more of stern talking too. He should know better though.

Really we’re just glad to have bucks around there this late in the season. It’s unheard of in the 6 years we’ve had the place, so maybe it’s getting better.

I’d written the farm off and was planning to go to the lease tomorrow to chase pigs but I may head to the farm instead and spend the weekend with him, see if we can’t knock this ol’ boy down.

Thatís a wrap. Yesterday my target buck showed up at 5:45 behind me. Couldnít get a clear shot and then the wind started gusting and my tree was all over the place by the time i found him in my scope he had spooked.
This evening he came in right at dark with 2 other bucks. An old heavy buck (wonít make 13Ē) kept him pushed back off the corn till i couldnít see to shoot. I watch them through my Binos till 6:30 and finally climbed down.
Tough season. First time Iíve went with out a buck in years.

Corn hog that is lucky heís only 12Ē

Here he is, hunted him over 250 hrs with 5 encounters since archery opener. Heíll be 6.5 next year. The count down begins

Yesterday was a wrap for us. I wanted one more deer for sausage and it just didnt pan out. My son had his first year in 11 years he didnt get a deer.

I normally take cameras and stack em up on bedding trails to take an inventory of survivors. But, we dont have but one deer i can say I want to watch at this point and he was at a feeder Friday.

Time to do some fishin

We let a bunch of solid 3.5 year olds go in the 2018 - 19 season, and evidently no one around us killed much of anything this past season, so the 2020 - 21 season ought to be solid. There should be a plethora of 4.5 and 5.5 year old bucks around, so here’s hoping things pan out better.

And after Trump gets elected for another term...man it can’t get much better.

Getting traps ready for pigs and found an 8 pt that I thought was dead. Didn’t see him last year or late the season before. He’s 6.5 this year and pretty impressive for an 8! (I love big 8’s). So there’s 2 @ 6.5 that made it through the season and a 4.5 yo 8 that will probably be a target for Lola next as well! Let the hunt begin

Deer were on their feet this morning.

Saw loads of deer, including seven different bucks. They are back in bachelor herds and not one of them had horns.

I might be pulling the plug on this season earlier than years past. Hearing the same reports from other lease members as well.

We tend to a have few drop early, but it seems like they have all gone slick head early this year.
