Hogs and Fleas

The worst part of cleaning hogs is the fleas and ticks they carry. We have found a solution. We spray the hog down with everclear in a pump bottle and light them off. No more fleas! Before we skin we scrub the burned hair down with a wire BBQ brush. Obviously the everclear has other uses too.

We have also used a propane burner from Harbor Freight to burn them but the everclear is a little more low tech.

I've never tried the alcohol. Never saw a point and wasting any I guess.

But what I do is fill up a barrel with dish soap and water then let them soak for a while. Seems to work fairly well.

Just skin them and throw the fleas, ticks and skin away.

Search for flea repellent and lemons and you'll find a way to do it without wasting alcohol...

Dawn soap and water. Kills fleas, lice, and ticks!

Spray "off" on them and no more fleas... (or just get the skin off)

We have dipped them in soapy water before and it seems to make the fleas very sluggish. No problem pulling the hide before they became active again. Burning them off deffintly sounds more fun.
