Hunting this season with a Sharps 45-90

After working up a decent black powder load (560 grain paper patched bullet) for my Shiloh Sharps, I decided I was going to only use this rifle this year. Having lost our lease we were on after 35 years, I am back to hunting on the 30 acres here at home. Hung a bow stand in September to be able to get a decent shot out to 75 yards or so. Dad has had a feeder set up below their house for about 10 years. He watches through binos from the house and feeds me info via text while I’m in the stand.

I’ve been hunting my butt off this week, morning and evening. Deer are moving like crazy. Bucks starting to really chase but the does aren’t in yet IMO. I refuse to shoot my resident does as they are my live bait for bucks passing through here.

This will be a continuous live hunt throughout the season as I hunt with top of the line 1870’s technology.

    My cartridge.

This morning. 12 yards but illegal as hell.

Good luck! Nothing like the smell of burnt black powder in the morning!

                          That is cool
I had a 45-70 Quigley and was afraid to take it hunting as I might scratch it. Worst decision I ever made on selling a gun, period!

For game I wouldn’t shoot past around 200. But I do have dope on this rifle out to 700 yards and am ringing steel consistently.
