    A warriors passing

My father in law SFC Gilbert Olvera passed away this morning at age 86
He was a true warrior. Member of the Special Forces Fifth Group and 82 Airborne

    I found the following

“The 5th Special Forces Group [5th SFG(A)] is one of the most decorated active duty United States Army Special Forces groups in the U.S. armed forces. The 5th SFG(A) saw extensive action in the Vietnam War and played a pivotal role in the early months of Operation Enduring Freedom. 5th Group—as it is sometime called—is designed to deploy and execute nine doctrinal missions: unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, direct action, counter-insurgency, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, information operations, counterproliferation of weapon of mass destruction, and security force assistance.”

He was an honor graduate of USAIMA

He served with Roy Benavides and was his guest at the White House when Roy received the Medal of Honor

He loved to tell the story of sitting on a hill somewhere in Vietnam and getting word on the radio that his 5th daughter (my wife) had been born

He is certainly one of the most honorable men I have ever met and will miss him greatly

Salute to a master blaster. I am glad he made it home to his family and friends. So many of our brothers did not.
